"TRAINING SOCCER LEGENDS"  STYLE AND PROGRAM founded by Andy Barney.

Important Quick Note: From a physical fitness standpoint the “Training Soccer Legends” approach has it all. Legends trained players develop great speed/power, strength/endurance and aerobic capability. The creative dribbling and shooting based curriculum also builds tremendous coordination, balance and agility. Additionally the deceptive dribbling and precision ball striking demanded of each player grooves great skill at speed. Intelligence is both fully utilized and developed by the ever changing myriad of variables, while character is honed because of the constant extra challenges, frustrations, fatigue and physical abuses that players have to overcome on and around the ball. The Legends way also demands great communication and creative problem solving at speed under pressure. These are two of the most essential life skills. Furthermore, the Legends approach offers the smaller, slightly built, and the bigger, more muscular individual, an equality of opportunity that more traditional coaching philosophies do not. Because of the constant action and involvement Legends players are engaged and motivated all practice long, plus 1 v 1 & 2 v 2 can be adapted to accommodate any player permutation at practice. A further advantage is that the “Training Soccer Legends” concept is comparatively simple and great players can be developed without unreasonable costs because the program is oriented more towards practice and development than the game. Last but not least, the curriculum builds a higher level of awareness and physical agility, plus a superior quality of connective tissue that makes Legends trained players less likely to suffer serious injury.

Soccer coached the traditional way is the world’s most popular team sport. Coached, played and watched the “Training Soccer Legends” way it can only be more rewarding, enjoyable and beneficial for teachers, players and spectators alike.

“Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction and skillful execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives.”

RCU: Giving Back To the Community!!!

RCU understands how important it is to give back to our community. It is important for our youth/players to understand that we all can make a difference and have a role within the communities in which we live, work, and play. To not only make a difference in what we can do, but to lead by example.  One of our very own River City United teams, the U19 Girls, is leading by example!  This is the 6th year in which this team has made a donation of fireworks to the Children’s Receiving Home of Sacramento! This should help to put a smile on some faces while they enjoy a 4th of July tradition of "FIREWORKS"!

Thank you to our U19 Girls who are making a difference in our community. They are our future and they are leading the way!

RCU GIRLS HELP LEAD THEIR HIGH SCHOOL TEAM TO THE SACRAMENTO/SAN JOAQUIN CIF PLAYOFFS

Inderkum High School women’s varsity soccer team earned a berth into the Sacramento/San Joaquin CIF playoffs for the first time in the school’s history. This was accomplished with a strong River City United presence. Not only did they make the playoffs, they won their first playoff game with a 2-0 win over Placer High.  The team lost to the eventual 2011section champions, Rio Americano.

The team started seven River City United U19 players: Ivarie Bourrage, Trianna Hernandez, Danielle McCarthy, Cierra Quintana, Megan Reali, Makayla Ruvalcaba, & Priscilla Wong.  They  would have started eight if Ayane Ahmed had not sustained an injury. The Club congratulates our U19 girls for their hard work, dedication, and a job well done!  We would also like to point out that; Ivarie, Danielle, Cierra, Megan, Makayla, and Priscilla are all sophomores!  Additionally, Trianna, Danielle, Cierra, and Priscilla earned All-League 1st team honors!

Congratulations to our U19 girls for their accomplishments and we wish them good luck in their future endeavors!

RCU 01 Elite - CCSL Spring League Champs

On May 21, 2011, River City United 01 Elite concluded the 2011 CCSL Spring League season with a 2-1 victory in the championship game. The opponent: Briceno Victory.  The venue: San Ramon Elementary in Novato.  The scene was set for an excellent game of soccer. Briceno's only blemish to their record was an away defeat to RCU by a narrow 2-1 scoreline. Revenge was in the air for the home side but RCU, in great form, had extreme confidence heading into the match.

Two first-half goals by Micaiah G and Justin C were well deserved after RCU created plenty of dangerous opportunities in the first stanza. The second half saw much more balanced play with Briceno getting an amazing shot on goal, only to have Nathan T make an unbelievable reaction save. Briceno cut the deficit in half after a successful penalty 7 minutes from time. RCU fought off wave after wave of attacks, with stellar determination, to walk away with their first trophy in their first competition this year!

Congratulations gentlemen on a job well done!
